Vocal Notes is a macOS transcription app that can record live speech or import audio and video files to create transcripts on your Mac.
Local processing
Speech transcription runs locally on your Mac. Your recordings, imported files, transcripts, custom vocabulary, and exports stay on your device unless you choose to share them.
Permissions
Vocal Notes asks for microphone access for live transcription and Quick Dictation. If you use Type into other apps, macOS may also require Accessibility permission so the app can insert text into the current app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
